School districts move to e-learning during coronavirus class cancellations

Most students were supposed to be back in class Monday following spring break but, instead, they'll be learning from home.

AUSTIN, Texas — Several Central Texas school districts are starting online learning this week since classes are canceled until April 3. Round Rock ISD, Manor ISD and Austin ISD are starting online learning this week.

Round Rock ISD's website, Home Learning Hub, shows each grade, special education services, fine arts and digital resources. Each grade is set up with the subject and a list of ways on how to teach it. RRISD parents told KVUE they're enjoying the at-home learning and think the website is user-friendly.

RRISD told parents in an email, "This is a challenging time for everyone, but we hope that by providing learning activities for students to participate in from home, we can help bring normalcy and routine and give students and parents resources to maintain educational progress."

RRISD said they are also providing take-home packets at their curbside breakfast and lunch distribution sites for students who have limited access to devices or the internet. They ask parents to check Round Rock ISD’s coronavirus webpage for updates.

None of the assignments the students are completing on the online learning websites will be graded, but it's a way to keep students learning and reinforcing what they already know.

Manor ISD has something similar on their website, and one of the things they suggest is to make a daily schedule. The schedule will keep you and your family organized throughout the next couple of weeks.

Manor ISD said if you are unable to participate in online learning, learning packets will be available at food pickup locations, starting on Monday, March 30. You can also download them here.

Austin ISD also has everything separated by grade and how to make a schedule on their Learning At-Home website. They have several different learning applications, like Brain Pop.

Every school district says these resources are optional. AISD said they'll also have hands-on activities for students who don't have access to devices and the internet.

Pflugerville ISD said they're working on their learning-at-home website, but it probably won't launch until later this week or early next week. Leander ISD said their teachers will be reaching out to families to figure out their lesson plans. Eanes ISD said remote learning will begin on Thursday.
