Five facts about KVUE's five meteorologists

In honor of National Weatherperson's Day, KVUE is thanking our meteorologists for their work informing the viewers of Central Texas weather.

In honor of National Weatherperson's Day, KVUE is thanking our meteorologists for their work informing the viewers of Central Texas weather.

KVUE has five degreed meteorologists: Mark Murray (weekday evenings), Albert Ramon (weekday mornings), Jared Plushnick (weekend evenings), Nathan Gogo (weekend mornings) and Steve Newton (KVUE.com). In honor of these five men, we surveyed them and got five facts about them.

Mark Murray:

  1. Was a DJ at a rock & roll station before starting on air
  2. His first on-air appearance was as a guest weatherman at a Colorado station
  3. Started at KVUE in 1990
  4. Played saxophone in a swing band after graduating high school
  5. Can often be seen at Austin music venues

Albert Ramon:

  1. Was in 4H as a boy and participated in livestock shows
  2. Played trombone in high school
  3. First job was at a McDonald's
  4. Is a photographer in his spare time
  5. Was almost born on a leap day

Jared Plushnick:

  1. Captain of his high school's golf team
  2. First local job on air was at WABI in Bangor, Maine
  3. On a mission to find the world's best chili. Will order it if it is on a restaurant's menu.
  4. Is a die-hard Baltimore Orioles fan. Was at Cal Ripken's record-breaking 2,131st consecutive game in 1995 and still has the ticket.
  5. Enjoys listening to the Foo Fighters

Nathan Gogo:

  1. Grew up watching the Chicago Cubs
  2. Illinois State Checkers Champion when he was 12
  3. Iowa State grad, huge fan of the Cyclones basketball team
  4. Ran the Chicago Marathon in 2011
  5. Always gets deep dish pizza and Portillo's when visiting family in Chicago

Steve Newton:

  1. Graduated high school at 17
  2. Is an Eagle Scout
  3. Writes screenplays in his spare time
  4. Covered Superstorm Sandy during his first week at WTAJ in Pennsylvania
  5. Was an extra in ‘Lazer Team,' a sci-fi movie filmed in the Austin area that was released in January 2016
