SAN MARCOS, Texas — The late Mountain City mayor, Phillip Taylor, will be honored with the lowering of flags in Hays County to half-staff on Friday, April 5, after a request by Gov. Greg Abbott.
Mayor Taylor succumbed to injuries from a car accident Mar. 28.
"The First Lady and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Taylor family, the staff of Hays County, Mountain City, and the Hays Consolidated Independent School District, as well as the entire community on this loss," Gov. Abbott said in his letter issuing the authorization to lower the flags.
The flags will return to full-staff on Saturday, April 6.

According to the press release, visitation for Mayor Taylor is to be held at Harrell Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 4. A memorial service will be held April 5 at 10 a.m. at Hays CISD Performing Arts Center.
“In our grief, we have received the support of our governor, who has issued a letter authorizing me to ask our county to lower flags to half-staff to honor and respect Mayor Phillip Taylor of Mountain City,” County Judge Ruben Becerra said. “Governor Abbott and the First Lady join Mrs. Becerra and me in sending our most heartfelt condolences to the Taylor family.”
