AUSTIN, Texas — Mothers will be gathering at the Texas Capitol Monday to fight for legislation addressing policies and protocols that will help black women survive and thrive through pregnancy.
According to the 2012 data from the state's task force on maternal mortality, about 28 black mothers died during every 100,000 live births, compared to fewer than 14 white or Hispanic mothers.
The Black Mamas Community Collective's goal Monday is to spread awareness and to educate the community about the wellbeing of black mothers and their health.
