Coronavirus updates in Central Texas: Austin-Travis County now in Stage 3

Here are the latest COVID-19 updates in Central Texas for Tuesday, March 1.

COVID-19 numbers:

  • Texas: 
  • Central Texas counties: 
    • Austin-Travis County: The seven-day moving average for new hospital admissions is 20, and an average of 199 people are hospitalized. The community transmission rate is 61.3 cases per 100,000 (substantial) and the positivity rate is 6.8%. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 199,845 cases have been reported and at least 1,350 people have died.
    • Hays County: There are currently 1,974 active cases, and seven people are currently hospitalized. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 52,650 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 483 people have died. 
    • Williamson County: There are 17 new cases of coronavirus in Williamson County. Eleven percent of hospital beds are available, and 7% of ICU beds are available. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 109,537 cases have been reported and at least 854 people have died.

10 a.m. – Austin-Travis County has moved down to Stage 3 of the area's COVID-19 risk-based guidelines, less than two weeks after moving back to Stage 4. Here's what that means.

9:20 a.m. – Austin's Economic Development Department has announced awards of more than $14.4 million in relief grants and services to individuals and small businesses impacted by the pandemic. 

These Federal American Rescue Plan Act funds were dispersed through the Austin Arts & Culture Non-Profit Relief Grant, Arts Comunity Relief, the Austin Live Music Venue Preservation fund, the Austin Music Disaster Relief Grant and Capital IDEA Workforce Development. Learn more.

8:50 a.m. – Skillpoint Alliance and Austin Public Health are partnering to host a vaccine clinic. The clinic will focus on vaccinating at-risk individuals like skilled workers in the electrical, plumbing and HVAC fields.

The clinic will be held from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Skillpoint Alliance campus located at 8868 Research Blvd. Suite 505 in Austin. First and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be available, as well as COVID-19 boosters. APH will offer Modern, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
