Coronavirus updates in Central Texas: Thursday schools and stat tracker

Here are the latest COVID-19 updates in Central Texas for Thursday, Nov. 11.

COVID-19 numbers:

  • Texas: More than 3.5 million cases have been reported in the state, and more than 70,800 people in Texas have died, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Central Texas counties: 
    • Austin-Travis County: The seven-day moving average for new hospital admissions is 14, and an average of 120 people are hospitalized. The seven-day moving average for new cases is 95. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 120,844 cases have been reported and at least 1,176 people have died.
    • Hays County: There are currently 410 active cases, and 10 people are currently hospitalized. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 29,957 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 401 people have died. 
    • Williamson County: There are 54 new cases of coronavirus in Williamson County. Nineteen percent of hospital beds are available, and 13% of ICU beds are available. Since the beginning of the pandemic, at least 66,119 cases have been reported and at least 712 people have died.
  • Central Texas school districts: 
    • Austin ISD: As of Nov. 10, there are a total of 26 new COVID-19 cases (20 students, 6 employees) and a total of 12 new exposures (12 students). Since Aug. 16, there have been 1,431 cumulative positive cases (1,169 students, 237 employees, 25 others) and 7,869 cumulative exposures (7,737 students, 110 employees, 22 others).
    • Round Rock ISD: As of Nov. 10, there are 16 new positive cases (14 students, 2 employees) and 122 new "close contacts" (101 students, 21 employees). There have been 1,924 total cumulative positive cases (1,669 students, 255 employees) and 16,086 total cumulative "close contacts" (14,807 students, 1,279 employees).
    • Leander ISD: For the week of Nov.6-Nov. 12, there have been 43 total positive cases. There have been 1,713 total cumulative positive cases.
    • Pflugerville ISD: For the week of Nov. 7-Nov. 12, there have been 0 total positive cases. There have been 1,115 total cumulative positive cases.
    • Hays CISD: As of Nov. 10, there are 31 active student cases and 7 active staff cases. There have been a total of 976 cumulative student cases and 169 cumulative staff cases.
  • Texas Public Schools (2021-22 school year; updated on Fridays with data from the previous Monday-Sunday)
    • Cumulative positive student cases: 211,788
    • Cumulative positive staff cases: 38,865

  • Case average is 2,480 per day over the past week
    • Down 1% from a week ago
    • Down 53% from a month ago
  • 165 new COVID-19 deaths
    • 71,186 total to date
  • 2,717 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals … the fewest since July 15
    • Down 12% from a week ago
    • Down 56% from a month ago

LOCAL

  • 203 cases per day over the past week in the Austin-metro
    • Up 2.6% from a week ago
    • Down 40% from a month ago
  • Hospital admissions at 13.9 per day as of yesterday
  • 134 COVID-19 patients in Austin-area (TSA O) hospitals … the fewest since July 12
    • 59 in ICU
    • 1 pediatric COVID-19 patient

VACCINES

  • Texas up to 53.6% of the total population fully vaccinated (61.8% partially vaccinated)
    • 1,997,992 have had an additional dose (booster)
    • Since CDC signed off (Nov. 3), 79,670 doses have been administered to Texas kids ages 5-11
      • 7,072 in Travis County
      • 2,794 in Williamson County
      • 767 in Hays County
