AUSTIN — History teaches us a lot.

On Christmas Day in 1991, Lake Travis reached a record height of 710.44 feet, a record that still stands, at least for now.

This is what Lake Travis looked like at 710 feet in 1991. The area received 16 inches of rain and more than 1,000 homes were flooded, at least 50 of which were completely submerged in the Graveyard Point area. The development "The Island" was also surrounded by water.

There were no deaths, but this is what a repeat could look like by the end of the week.
