It's NCAA Tournament eve for the UT women's basketball team in Oregon

The Longhorns are set to face the Hoosiers on Friday evening.

EUGENE, Ore. — A 23-win season and a seven-seed in the Women's NCAA Tournament wasn't exactly the season the Texas Longhorns anticipated prior to the season.

Injuries to LaShann Higgs versus Quinnipiac early in the season and a season-ending leg fracture to heralded freshman Sedona Prince last summer left the Horns without depth. Additionally, Joyner Holmes missed games earlier in the season due to an ankle injury.

Coach Karen Aston's Longhorns managed to remain competitive and remained in the upper portion of the Big 12 race, finishing with a 12-6 record in conference play.

After eliminating TCU in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals, UT was eliminated by Iowa State in the semifinals 75-69 and a 23-9 overall record.

UT received the seven-seed in the Portland, Oregon, Region and was assigned to the Eugene, Oregon, sub-regional. The Longhorns are set to meet 10th seeded Indiana, a team which finished 8-10 in the Big Ten Conference and 20-12 overall.

"Where they finished in their league is a little misleading," said Aston.

The Hoosiers finished 10th in the Big Ten Conference.

"I think they've been through the grind kind of like we have," said Aston.

"I was excited about our matchup, we were the seventh seed in the bracket. I'm not worried about that. I'm just excited to get going again," said Texas point guard Sug Sutton.

Tomorrow's NCAA Tournament opener will be the first time Texas has played in a game since losing to Iowa State in Oklahoma City on March 10.

Texas and Indiana will tip off on the campus of the University of Oregon Friday evening at 6 p.m.
