INDIANAPOLIS — It was perhaps the most hyped and anticipated measurement of height at an NFL Combine since the inception of social media.
Former University of Oklahoma and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Kyler Murray has been criticized for his lack of height and some critics believe he's too short to play quarterback in the NFL.
Murray's predecessor at OU and 2017's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Baker Mayfield's measurements during last year's NFL Combine were somewhat similar to Murray's — except the height.
Turns out, Murray is five foot, 10 and one-eighth inches tall, making him only two inches shorter than Mayfield, who he eventually became the top overall selection in last year's NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
Murray's hand size is a quarter of an inch larger than Mayfield's. Other notable NFL quarterbacks with the same hand size as Murray include Matt Ryan, Andy Dalton, Mitch Trubinsky, Lamar Jackson, Robert Griffin III and fellow former OU quarterback Sam Bradford.
According to NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Murray has told NFL teams that he doesn't plan on participating in drills or testing at the NFL Combine.
Instead, he plans on testing and throwing during his pro day in Norman, Oklahoma, on the OU campus.
Murray chose to explore professional football over professional baseball. Murray was selected in last summer's June Amateur Baseball Draft by the Oakland A's in the first round.
On February 11, Murray announced his decision to focus solely on football. The Oakland Athletics do retain the rights to Murray.
Last fall, Murray led Oklahoma to another Big 12 Championship and the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Murray finished the 2018 season with 4,361 yards passing, 1001 yards rushing and 54 combined touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Kyler is the nephew of former University of Texas baseball great Calvin Murray and the son of legendary Texas A&M quarterback Kevin Murray.
