LIBERTY HILL, Texas — It's not just Austin that's growing. Communities outside the metro area have seen a surge in population, and that's caused a traffic problem in Liberty Hill.
Some, who live near RR 1869 said a small change for two streets there is causing a big issue.
"Yeah, this road is quite busy," Susan King said. "It used to be you could go everywhere but no longer."
Myrtle Lane and Barton Lane used to be an outlet for people off the main road, but now that's changed.
"Since they changed it to one-way, they're not allowed to do that anymore," Bessie Lunsford, who has lived in Liberty Hill since 2000, said. "But in the mornings now, you can't see the end of the traffic extending back on 1869 'cause there's just so many people coming in for work and for school."
"There's a big change in traffic," King, who moved to Liberty Hill a year ago, said. "Yes, an increase in population definitely."
Both King and Lunsford think growth is a big part of the issue.
"Yes, and that's a problem Liberty Hill has that I think a lot of communities have," Lunsford said. "The growth in the community outpaces what the roads can handle."
As for the one-way streets, they are causing everyone on the road to come to the all-way stop.
At least those who follow the rules.
"Well, yes," Lunsford said. "We see a lot of people who actually disregard the one-way street."
According to the agenda for the next Liberty Hill City Council meeting, they're looking into an amendment and might change the roads again.
But traffic because of growth will still be there.
"You can expect even more growth in Liberty Hill. They're getting ready for it," Lunsford said.
