1 person dead after getting hit by vehicle in Central Austin

Police said the driver of the vehicle was not injured, stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

AUSTIN, Texas — One person is dead after they were hit by a vehicle early Tuesday morning in Central Austin, according to first responders. 

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) and the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the incident at around 5:40 a.m. on the 900 block of northbound Interstate 35. 

ATCEMS said an adult died at the scene after they were hit by a vehicle, but no other information about the victim has been released. APD said the driver of the vehicle was not injured, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 60th fatal crash of the year, resulting in 65 deaths. Anyone with any information about this incident should contact APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111. Tips may also be submitted anonymously online or by calling 512-472-8477.
