Victim identified in homicide at southeast Austin apartment

Police said the 20-year-old victim died on scene after suffering from a gunshot wound.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating the city's 53rd homicide of the year.

According to the APD, officers arrived at the Emerson Apartments, located at 2121 Burton Drive, around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday. Once on scene, police found a man – later identified as 20-year-old Keshawn Ramonce Cage – suffering from a gunshot wound.

Life-saving measures were attempted, but Cage was pronounced dead at the scene just before 11 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the scene and interviewed witnesses, learning that an unidentified suspect shot Cage. APD said the investigation is in its early stages, and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

Anyone with any details about this incident is asked to contact APD's Homicide Unit Tip Line at 512-974-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest.

This is the third homicide on Burton Drive this week. On Monday, police discovered two people dead inside a car in the 1800 block of the street. Those victims were later identified as as Brian Florentino Flores Alvarez and Francis Kaina Anseume Corredor. Sherles Machado-Hernandez, Anseume Corredor's common-law husband, has been charged in connection with their murders.

There is no indication that Monday's shootings and Wednesday's shooting are connected.
