10-year-old Leeland Gonzales received the Austin Police Department's Bravery Award on Friday for saving his sister from a dog attack last month.
Gonzales says he was home alone with his 9-year-old sister when his dog started acting weird and biting his sister's arm. He said he knew he should get the dog out of the house.
Gonzales called police, who ended up shooting the dog after it broke through a gate and tried to attack the girl again.
"I'm actually proud of him, I'm very proud of him," Leeland's mom said. "To hear the stories from everybody that happened that night, I'm very proud of him."
Leeland's mom and APD officers are proud that he knew what to do and say that if he had not, the situation could have been much worse.
