MARBLE FALLS, Texas — Two contract workers who were crushed to death on Saturday while offloading transmission poles in Marble Falls have been named.
Patrick Sheesley, 30, of Wilson, Kansas, and Bryan Weatherford, 49, of Windwood, Oklahoma, were working on a Pedernales Electrical Cooperative (PEC) transmission upgrade project when the incident happened, officials said.
According to the Burnet County Sheriff's Office, a 9,000- to 10,000-pound metal utility pole had fallen onto the two workers during "lifting operations."
Deputies arrived at the job site near State Highway 71 and Twisted Oaks Drive at around 3:40 p.m., when EMS confirmed the two workers had died.
The families of both men have been notified.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
The contracted workers were with the Washington company Maslonka Powerline Services, PEC said. The company released the following statement on Tuesday:
"It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the deaths of two of our employees at Maslonka Powerline Services. Our team is extremely saddened by the incident that occurred on Saturday in Marble Falls, Texas. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Institute for Safety in Powerline Construction (ISPC) promptly came onto the scene Saturday to conduct a third-party investigation and we continue to coordinate and support their efforts.
Safety is and will always be a fundamental value on which our company is built, and we strive to encourage and empower a culture of safety throughout our organization.
Our hearts and attention are with the families of the victims and our staff."
