Police ID four killed in Bastrop County crash

Police have identified the four people who were killed in a three-vehicle crash in Bastrop County on March 4.

Four people were killed after a three-vehicle collision in McDade on Friday, according to the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Friday at U.S. 290 and FM 2336 in McDade. The Texas Department of Public Safety said a Chevrolet Equinox was driving westbound on U.S. 290, and crossed over the solid yellow line to enter a turn lane before it crossed into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.

The people driving in the pickup truck were a family from Cedar Park -- James Alexander, 43, known to his friends as "Matt," and his wife Jennifer Alexander, 44, with their two kids Jackson Alexander, 10, and Daniel, 7. James died on the scene. His wife and two children were transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge and Dell Children's Medical Hospital, respectively.

DPS confirmed Saturday afternoon that Jackson died in the hospital. Jennifer and Daniel have both been released.

The two people in the Equinox, 29-year-old Angelica Ortega of Hutto and her 2-year-old nephew Aaron Galvez, died at the scene.

Officials told KVUE's Nicole Rosales that the family in the pickup was going to a funeral in Houston when the crash happened.

DPS said a third vehicle, a GMC Terrain, was also involved in the crash. After the initial collision, it clipped the pickup truck. No injuries are reported from that vehicle.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Ortega and Galvez families. Go here for more information.

In a statement, the Ortega and Galvez families expressed their condolences to the Alexander family.
