A sticky situation: Austin Wildlife Rescue sends warning on glue traps after rescuing owl

Rescuers said the barred owl got stuck after chasing a mouse onto a glue trap.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Wildlife Rescue is urging people with pest problems to stop using glue traps after it rescued a barred owl.

Officials said the owl was chasing a mouse, which eventually got stuck on the trap. As a result, the owl got its feathers stuck as well. The rescuers were able to free the owl from the trap and clean its plumage with Dawn baths.

This Barred Owl arrived at our intake center stuck on a glue trap. He was chasing a mouse that got stuck on the trap and ended up with his feathers stuck as well. We were able to free him of the glue...

"Please keep in mind that glue traps are never a good option," wrote Austin Wildlife Rescue on Facebook. "They result in animals’ pain and suffering and do not solve your problem. There are other more humane options, please call us if you need suggestions!"
