AUSTIN, Texas — A day after the Supreme Court came down with a landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, abortion rights supporters gathered at the Texas State Capitol.
Several thousand protesters marched and shut down various streets in Downtown Austin.
The group TX4Abortion organized the "Everything But The Kitchen Sink" protest on Saturday. On Instagram, the organization shared a post asking supporters to bring pots, pans and spatulas to make noise and draw attention at the State Capitol.
Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon told the Austin American-Statesman he estimated the demonstration might have included more than 5,000 people at its largest point.
On Friday, a similar protest was held. An Austin police spokesperson told KVUE that two arrests were made, including an incident for assault on a state trooper and a separate misdemeanor violation.
It is unclear if any arrests were made after Saturday's protest. Chacon told the Statesman that the crowd of protestors was "generally very cooperative and peaceful."
