Man killed in 'gun battle' at East Austin gas station

This was the third homicide of the day in Austin on Sunday, July 16.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in East Austin on Sunday night.

The incident, which officers with the Austin Police Department are calling a "gun battle," happened near a Valero gas station at 1135 Airport Blvd. just after 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said they received reports of multiple shots fired in the area. Officers arrived at the scene to find one man, identified as 19-year-old Tijarious White, suffering from gunshot-related injuries. Medics tried to save White, but he died before making it to a hospital.

The APD said White was inside the gas station as a customer when the suspect entered. The suspect then shot and killed White.

In an update on Wednesday, July 19, APD released a photo and video of the suspect.

This was the third homicide of the day in Austin on Sunday. Police are also investigating a double homicide on South Glenn Street in southeast Austin and another homicide near East 52nd Street and Cameron Road in northeast Austin.

"Be vigilant. If you see something, say something. Again, we have reason to believe that these are not random acts of violence. Typically, in each scenario, there is some kind of relationship between victim and suspect, whether they are friends or enemies or acquaintances even," said Cpl. Jose Mendez with the APD.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact APD at 512-974-TIPS or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
