Large fire at southeast Austin apartment complex displaces more than a dozen residents

The fire spread to 10 different units, AFD said.

AUSTIN, Texas — Seventeen residents can't return to their homes after a large fire at an apartment complex in southeast Austin on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2:40 p.m., the Austin Fire Department said its crews responded to the fire in the 2100 block of Burton Drive, near East Oltorf Street and South Pleasant Valley Road. Firefighters arriving on the scene found heavy smoke and a large, rapidly spreading fire.

The fire spread to multiple units and affected 10 apartments overall, AFD said. Residents and pets inside adjacent apartments were evacuated due to the fire.

Crews were able to put out the fire around 3 p.m. No injuries were reported.
