Contrary to initial reports, the man who was shot at by officers in East Austin Friday night did not fire his weapon at officers, Interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said during a press conference Monday.

The Austin Police Department said they were called to the 6300 block of Parliament Drive at 9:48 p.m. Friday on reports of a man with a gun. Several officers responded to the scene. Upon their arrival, officers asked the suspect to come outside of the residence but he refused. Officers called the SWAT team but before they arrived the suspect came outside and raised his weapon at the officers, Manley said. Manley said that four officers then fired at him. Manley said it is not known how many shots were fired or who fired their weapons.

The suspect was transported by Austin Travis County EMS to University Medical Center Brackenridge in stable condition. He was identified Monday as Lawrence Parrish, 31.

The officers will be placed on administrative leave, which is protocol after an officer-involved shooting.

Police retrieved a rifle from the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
