The robbery forced a lockdown at Bryker Woods Elementary School Wednesday afternoon, but that was lifted sometime later.
The robbery happened sometime around 1 p.m. at the Benchmark Bank located at 1508 West 35th Street near Seton Medical Center and Lamar Boulevard.
Police have described the robber as a 30- to 40-year-old black man who was wearing a white, short-sleaved shirt with horizontal stripes, blue jeans and sunglasses. He is between 5-feet 9-inches and 6-feet tall.
Police said he was driving a black, two-door convertible.
This is Central Austin's third bank robbery this week. On Monday, someone robbed a Wells Fargo bank at West 35th Street near Kerbey Lane. On Tuesday, a man who police believe was wearing a shoulder-length wig robbed a Benchmark Bank located off of North Lamar Boulevard.
KVUE has a crew on the way. This developing story will update as more information becomes available.
