City of Austin considers neighborhood bikeways

Transportation leaders say they're looking at the Central Austin neighborhoods of North University, Heritage and Rosedale.

AUSTIN, Texas — City leaders are considering turning several Austin streets into neighborhood bikeways.

Those are streets where the speeds are lowered to make them safer for both bicyclists and pedestrians.

Transportation leaders say they're looking at the Central Austin neighborhoods of North University, Heritage and Rosedale.

Funding for the project is available from the 2016 Mobility Bond Bikeways and Sidewalks program.

Some of the changes the City is proposing are new share-the-road arrows, speed bumps and more bicycle lanes. Those are just a few of the changes.

Other proposed changes include switching stop signs at certain intersections, speed reductions and signal timing changes.
