Party for a Purpose with Fork Cancer Austin

The event is designed to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

AUSTIN, Texas — The American Cancer Society's (ACS) Fork Cancer event, presented by Texas Oncology, will be happening next Thursday, Nov. 9 at Distribution Hall.

The evening is hosted by ACS'S Austin Board of Ambassadors. The event will feature authentic small plate cuisine and cocktails from around 30 Austin establishments, along with live music and a silent auction benefiting ACS.

Last years event raised over $300,000 to support the company's mission of improving the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research and patient support, to ensure everyone has an opportunity to prevent, detect, treat and survive the disease.

This year alone, according to ACS, more than 130,000 Texans will hear the horrible words, "you have cancer."

ACS says they provide direct patient support services to those living with cancer. According to officials, getting to treatment is often one of the biggest challenges a patient faces in their cancer journey, so the organization says they offer free transportation and lodging assistance to those leaving home for treatment.

Featured foods at the event will include dishes from Uncle Nicky’s, Vestal’s Catering, Tiff’s Treats, Ararat, Via 313, Hank’s Austin, Mia Italian Tapas, Vestal’s Catering, Andi’s Minis, Loro, Uchiba, Ten Ten and The Well. Entertainment will be provided from Love and Happiness Band. Auction items include several Bahamas vacation packages, a private shopping party at Love, Shack, Fancy and a Dulce Tequila tasting party for 20.

KVUE's Dominique Newland will be emceeing this year's event.
