Austin has taken yet another step to being home to a Major League Soccer team.
KVUE reported in October 2017 the MLS team, Columbus Crew, from Columbus, Ohio, were considering relocating to Austin. The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce later threw their support behind the idea of Austin hosting an MLS soccer team.
After looking at more than half a dozen locations -- many of them parks -- the Austin City Council has directed the city manager to look into the pros and cons of putting a major league soccer stadium on Mc Kalla Place near the intersection of Braker Lane and Burnet Road and The Domain. Council members voted after midnight following comments from people for and against the move.

Some people who spoke at the meeting said the city should use the land for affordable housing instead.
"I hope that you will make an objective decision as to what is more important," one speaker said. "Number one -- the land for affordable housing in Austin, Texas or a major soccer league team coming here?"
The city did say they are considering this area for affordable housing.
And for those wanting to see this MLS team come to Austin, it's not only about professional soccer.
"Austin is a perfect match for major league soccer based on the business side of what soccer can bring and more importantly the cultural aspects of soccer," a speaker said.
Neighbors will be asked to weigh in before the city manager comes up with his findings by June 1.
