AUSTIN, Texas — A man convicted of multiple felonies is back in Travis County Jail on several new charges.
Kevin Lucas was arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at a family in South Austin during a Fourth of July celebration while also pretending to be a police officer.
According to an affidavit obtained by KVUE, Austin police were called out to a home on Buckingham Place after reports that a man was pointing a gun at people and that family members were fighting for the gun. The caller also told police that the man showed them a badge.
The family told police they were getting ready to set off fireworks when the 60-year-old Lucas walked up to their home and told them to turn the music down. Lucas, who may have been intoxicated, also allegedly lifted his shirt and showed the family a firearm stating, "I got this thing."
Lucas allegedly pointed the gun at the family, including their infant son, when someone called for help from police. According to the affidavit, Lucas then said, "I am the police" and pulled out a badge.
Following a physical altercation, the family was able to keep the firearm away from Lucas until police arrived.
During their investigation, police learned that the badge Lucas allegedly displayed was a fake Transportation Security Administration badge. When police asked Lucas where he worked, his response was, "Check my Facebook page."
Lucas faces six felony charges following the incident. He's being held in jail on a combined $50,000 bond.
