AUSTIN, Texas — A man accused of stabbing multiple people in North Austin remains in jail following the alleged attack.
Court documents accuse 25-year-old Hector Elias Contreras-Uribe of stabbing multiple people at The Ivy Apartments on June 9 while cooking with his family.
According to an affidavit, Contreras-Uribe was grilling with his two brothers when a man told him his music was too loud. The argument escalated when Contreras-Uribe threw a rock at the man, hitting him in the face.
The two got into a physical fight, which led to Contreras-Uribe allegedly stabbing the man multiple times. As the brothers tried to break up the fight, the victim's father also ran over to help, which led to him allegedly being stabbed in the chest and back by Contreras-Uribe.
After his father was stabbed, the victim then went to his truck and grabbed his knife, stabbing Contreras-Uribe in self-defense. Police said following the incident that everyone was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. They also said everyone in the incident knew each other.
Junior Garcia Hernandez said his father and brother were hurt in the stabbing. He said a cookout was taking place Sunday night, but when he went to the store, he saw a heavy police presence.
"I don't know why they were fighting," Junior Garcia Hernandez said. "I feel bad because they shouldn't have weapons here in this area because I have my wife and my two children."
Garcia Hernandez said his father and brother were hurt in the incident while a cookout took place. He said he's still trying to get more information on what happened, but that he fears for everyone's safety.
"I spoke with the wife of my brother in Mexico. She was very worried and crying for him, and my mom and other brothers are also very worried," Garcia Hernandez said. "I don't know what's going to happen."
Contreras-Uribe faces two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in Travis County Jail on a combined bond of $60,000.
