AUSTIN, Texas — On Saturday, members of the community will have the chance to check out the Austin Fire Department's newest fire station.
It's opening in the Onion Creek neighborhood on Old San Antonio Road.
This new station is one of several the department plans to build across the city over the next six years to deal with rapid growth, as Austin firefighters struggle to meet response time goals of less than eight minutes.
The grand opening celebration for the station will happen at 1 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine.
