Austin ISD warns about scam targeting members of the community

Anyone who has been a victim of the scam is asked to contact 311 to make a report.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin ISD Police Department is warning the public about a new scam targeting members of the community.

The district said AISD police dispatch has been getting reports about phone calls from people falsely identifying themselves as police department employees.

The caller is reportedly claiming the victim has an arrest warrant and asking for social security numbers and other sensitive information.

Austin ISD police say the calls are fraudulent. Austin ISD said officials will not ask for sensitive personal information of this nature over the phone.

Anyone who has been a victim of this scam is asked to contact 311 to make a report.
