AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin Independent School District teacher was arrested Thursday for allegedly having inappropriate relations with a child.
LBJ Early College High School band teacher Rodney Childers is currently in the Williamson County Jail on two counts of Indecency with a Child by Exposure and two counts of Improper Educator/Student Relationship. Each of these charges is a second-degree felony.
Childers, a Round Rock resident, has taught choir, band and piano at the school since last fall. On Thursday, a parent said the teacher was engaged in inappropriate behaviors. He was placed on leave the same day.
Austin ISD Police began an investigation, and Childers was eventually booked into jail.
The district hosted a meeting Thursday night to discuss resources and additional support possibilities.
