AUSTIN, Texas — Michael Corcoran – whose unique, astute and often hilarious writing style captured the energy and spirit of the Texas music scene – has died.

The news of his death was announced on Corcoran's Facebook page Monday evening by his son, Jack Corcoran.

Corcoran worked as a music critic for the Dallas Morning News from 1992 to 1995 and for Austin American-Statesman from 1995 to 2011.

He also wrote about the rich, diverse and often surprising history of Texas music in several highly praised books, including "All Over the Map: True Heros of Texas Music” and “Ghost Notes: Pioneering Spirits of Texas Music.” Corcoran was reportedly working on a new book at the time of his death.
