Austin leaders to discuss 2019 budget plan that could increase energy bills, property taxes

Austin city leaders are hosting a public hearing Wednesday at 1 p.m. at City Hall to discuss the proposed changes.

AUSTIN — Austin city leaders are scheduled to discuss a budget plan Wednesday afternoon that could increase energy bills and property taxes.

The proposed 2019 budget plan will cost the average homeowner $5 more a month. Austin Energy rates and the city's "transportation user fee" rates are also expected to increase.

The main increase in the budget plan is in the property taxes which are expected to cost the average homeowner an additional $62 a year.

The city is hosting a public hearing Wednesday at 1 p.m. at City Hall to discuss the proposed changes.
