AUSTIN -- An Austin police officer has been fired after he was arrested for allegedly drinking several alcoholic beverages before driving, a memo obtained by KVUE June 29 revealed.

Austin Officer Brendan Bloom was arrested by a Williamson County deputy in Hutto on Jan. 4, the memo said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

The memo details the 911 call that a dispatcher received early that morning.

"This dude's wasted, man," the caller told the dispatcher, according to the memo. "We can’t even pass this guy. He’s, like, dead stop in the middle of the highway now."

The memo said the caller reported, "He’s just all over the road ... He’s gonna kill somebody."

According to surveillance video obtained from downtown Austin earlier that night, the memo said Bloom was seen drinking eight vodka tonics and four liquor shots before driving.

When the Austin Police Department's internal affairs spoke with Bloom, he said that he slept in his truck, and when he woke up he thought he was good to drive, the memo said. The memo also said Bloom maintained that sleep deprivation contributed to his poor driving, but "he did concede that his alcohol consumption contributed to his impaired driving."

Bloom was fired on June 28.
