Austin PD officer injured after pursuit ends in crash

A driver reportedly stole a vehicle and eventually crashed into an Austin Police Department cruiser.

AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin Police Department (APD) officer is injured after a chase led to a crash early Friday morning. 

According to APD, a driver reportedly stole a vehicle near Airport Boulevard and East 12th Street in East Austin. 

APD worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to follow the vehicle, which drove to Newfield Lane near MoPac in West Austin. 

The driver allegedly entered a cul-de-sac on Newfield Lane, where they crashed into an APD vehicle blocking part of the road. 

An officer was hurt in the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. 

The suspect was arrested but has not yet been charged.

No additional information is available at this time.
