AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating a Friday homicide at a northwest Austin apartment complex. As of July 11, a suspect in the case has since been arrested.
Police responded to the scene at 5:15 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a shooting minutes before.
Authorities responded to the Villas at Shadow Oaks apartments at 12148 Jollyville Road and found 52-year-old Allen Geisel with "an apparent life threatening, single gunshot wound to the back of the head," an affidavit released Wednesday said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:22 p.m., according to police.
The affidavit reported 30-year-old Jacklyn Ensign called 911 saying she'd "just shot someone in the head" and claiming abuse. The affidavit also said there were reportedly children in the home at the time of the incident.
Officers took Ensign to Austin Police Headquarters for questioning, and after requesting a lawyer, she reportedly said, "I know what I did was wrong and I'm sorry."
Police said it appears the shooting started as a domestic dispute, which escalated into the murder. Ensign remains in the Travis County Jail on a first-degree murder charge with bond set at $75,000.
This is being investigated as Austin's 37th homicide of 2022.
