AUSTIN — The Austin police are investigating after an elderly couple was found dead in North Austin Tuesday in murder-suicide.
According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a welfare call in North Austin at 11:24 p.m. Tuesday after the caller reported that she had not heard from her parents since Sunday evening. Police said the daughter was concerned that "something bad" had happened to them.
When police arrived, they reportedly found the elderly couple dead in their bed with gunshot wounds. Officials identified the couple as Kathryn and Ernest Locker. They were both 76 years old.
On Wednesday, the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted autopsies ruled Kathryn's death as a homicide with a gunshot wound to the back. Officials said Ernest's death was ruled as a suicide after he sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.
This is an ongoing investigation, but police said there is no public safety concern in regards to this incident.
