ROUND ROCK, Texas — Police on Thursday confirmed that Austin, Round Rock, San Marcos and Bastrop are among the growing list of cities across the nation receiving reports of bomb threats.
KVUE will update this story as local law enforcement provides additional reports:
Austin
The Austin Police Department said it responded to 24 calls regarding email bomb threats Thursday at various locations, one of which was a parking operation building at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
"There have been no devices found at any of them and the threats have not been proved credible at this time," the APD stated. "We are continuing to monitor the situation."
San Marcos
The APD bomb squad also assisted San Marcos police in investigating an emailed threat to Blue Skies Aviation at the San Marcos Regional Airport. The message stated an explosive had been hidden in the building and if they evacuated, or if police responded, the device would be detonated. The email demanded payment via cryptocurrency.
Police said Blue Skies was evacuated but no explosives were found and the business returned to normal operation.
Round Rock
Meanwhile, the Round Rock Police Department said they received reports of eight bomb threats sent to businesses and organizations by email. A RRPD spokesperson said investigators do not believe the threats are credible but they are investigating where they came from.
Nick Olivier, a spokesperson for the police department, said it's believed that at least two of the threats originated overseas. He could not provide which language was used in the emails or if they were identical in nature.
While no evacuations were caused as a result of the threats, police said they did visit some of the locations where the threats occurred.
Bastrop
In Bastrop, police said an email threat was received at the Lost Pines 8 Movie Theater on Chestnut Street.
Upon investigation, officials said the theater's owner received an email stating an explosive device was being placed on the property. The building was then evacuated as a precaution only to be cleared shortly after.
Nationwide
Bomb threats were also received nationwide in places like New York City, Dallas and San Francisco. For more information on those threats, click here.
