AUSTIN, Texas — A very busy route for drivers continues to grow fast.
Parmer Lane connects Travis and Williamson cvounties. To keep up with the area's growth, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) are looking at ways to improve the roadway.
"We know the region is going and that we need to plan ahead to make sure we are staying in line and ahead of that growth,” Caroline Golden said.
The Parmer Lane Corridor Study looks to make improvements between the MoPac Expressway all the way to Whitestone Boulevard in the Cedar Park area.
An open house Thursday at the Round Rock ISD Performing Arts Center was the second event held for this study. Residents were expected to share their input on some of the ideas CAMPO and TxDOT have.
“Intersection improvements at crash hot spots, additional sidewalk and shared use connections. And longer-term, that are identified to add additional lanes to in each direction," Golden said.
Those are some of the ideas the organizations are looking at.
Julian Mitchell, who works on Parmer Lane, said he wants to see some improvements.
"I'd like to see one more lane at least," Mitchell said. "That would be great. And the expansion of the bike lanes, that would be perfect."
CAMPO said it's still early in the process and that there's no timeline for construction just yet.
