AUSTIN, Texas — A deadly hit-and-run crash in southwest Austin is under investigation, according to police.
Police responded to the crash on State Highway 71 near the Oak Hill area just after 7 a.m. Tuesday after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, which prompted police to close the east and westbound lanes for several hours. Police have not released any information on the vehicle involved, which left the area following the crash.
The crash is being investigated as Austin's 63rd deadly crash of 2024, resulting in 68 deaths. At this point in 2023, there were 65 deadly crashes, also resulting in 68 deaths.
