4 men accused of robbing US postal carriers in Austin area

According to investigators, the suspects demanded carriers give him their "arrow key," which allows them to access mail receptacles on their route.

AUSTIN, Texas — Four men are facing charges for allegedly robbing postal carriers in the Austin area.

Court documents accuse Camren Hamilton, 22, and Jonathan Rangel, 26, of robbing two postal carriers in Round Rock on Sept. 30. Authorities also believe Rangel assaulted multiple letter carriers with the intent to rob them in the days prior, in Georgetown and Austin.

Court documents also claim Hamilton and Rangel were involved in a postal theft scheme with Christian Mosquera, 24, and Cody Smith, 23.

According to investigators, the suspects demanded carriers give him their "arrow key," which allows them to access mail receptacles on their route.

The four suspects face multiple charges. Hamilton is charged with two counts of robbery of mail matter, money or other property of the U.S. and two counts of receipt, possession, concealment and disposal of stolen mail matter and property of the U.S. Rangel is charged with four counts of robbery of mail matter, money or other property of the U.S. and two counts of receipt, possession, concealment and disposal of stolen mail matter and property of the U.S.

Smith and Mosquera are accused of conspiracy to steal and unlawfully possess USPS arrow keys, conspiracy to commit mail theft and conspiracy to rob U.S. mail or property of the U.S.

The defendants appeared in court on Oct. 2. They could each face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.
