94th Honor Flight flies out of Austin

It is described as a "trip of a lifetime" to Washington, D.C., to visit monuments and memorials honoring military service.

AUSTIN, Texas — The 9th Honor Flight took off from Austin Friday morning, with 50 World War 2, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans on board.

The trip is described as a "trip of a lifetime," as veterans travel to Washington, D.C. to visit monuments and memorials honoring military service.

"I talked to a couple guys that had been on it and it's an experience that you need to receive. That's what it is," said World War 2 veteran Don Kennedy. "You've gotta go up there and look at all those monuments for people who have served in this country and died for it. It's important."

The Honor Flight happens at no cost to veterans through donations made by Central Texans. The program has flown over 3,200 veterans to Washington, D.C. since 2012.
