Wells Branch MUD says water no longer requires boiling as of Wednesday

AUSTIN, Texas — A days-long boil water notice has been lifted for parts of the Wells Branch Municipal Utility District (MUD).

On Saturday, June 8, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required the Wells Branch MUD to issue a boil water notice after a massive water line break on Friday, June 7. The break was the result of a contractor hitting a 24-inch line during a bore, which caused gallons of water to spray in the air near the Milan Apartments on Wells Branch Parkway.

The line was repaired and water was restored on Saturday, leading to the boil water notice.

In an update on Monday, June 10, the MUD said one of the water samples used for required bacteriological testing did not pass. The same thing happened on Tuesday. Another round of samples was collected and sent off for testing, and the MUD said it hoped it would be able to lift the boil water notice on Wednesday, June 12.

On Wednesday, the MUD said the laboratory test results it sent the TCEQ "indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of June 12," so the MUD has lifted the boil water notice.
