Austin's Kirk Watson travels to White House for new mayor forum

The mayor-elect will meet with Biden administration officials to discuss partnerships with supporting cities.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin mayor-elect Kirk Watson will be at the White House on Friday.

The meeting is part of a series of briefings with several newly elected mayors from cities across the United States.

According to the White House, amid the forum, mayors and mayors-elect will meet with multiple Biden-Harris administration officials who will "outline the President’s priorities, highlight how his economic agenda – including the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act – is growing the economy from the bottom up and middle out, and discuss ways the Administration can continue to partner with and support cities."

Watson recently won the runoff election in a very tight race against his opponent, Celia Israel. Amid low voter turnout, Watson was declared victorious with 57,346 votes. Israel was not far behind with 56,460 votes.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
