AUSTIN, Texas — Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against his father's Austin-based company.
Court documents show Baker, an Austin native, and his wife Emily, filed the lawsuit Nov. 22 seeking nearly $12 million.
The lawsuit claims financial organization Camwood Capital Management Group and its subsidiaries did not fulfill a settlement agreement.
The Mayfields claim Camwood Capital Management took more than $12 million from their company, Team BRM, between 2018 and 2021. They claim the money was taken without their knowledge or consent to cover payroll and operating costs for Camwood Capital.
Eventually, the Mayfields and Camwood Capital reached a confidential settlement in January 2024. According to the lawsuit, a payment of $250,000 was scheduled for Sept. 30. However, the Mayfields claim none of the $11.7 million settlement was repaid and other obligations like access to Camwood's books and records were never fulfilled.
Baker Mayfield's father, James Mayfield, founded Camwood Capital in 2014. His brother, Texas A&M University graduate Matt Mayfield, is also listed as the company's managing director and oversees the company's venture capital division.
The Mayfields are now suing for the amount in settlement, attorney fees and interest.
