BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is hoping to clear up what they call "misinformation" on some Facebook posts.
In a Facebook post made Friday morning, Sheriff Maurice Cook said that the BCSO is actively working an apparent drowning off Rosanky Cattle Company Road. Cook said on Thursday at around 4 p.m., ranch workers found a body floating in a large tank on the ranch in that area.
According to Cook, there is no evidence of foul play. However, the body is being sent to the Medical Examiner's Office to officially determine the cause of death.
Cook said the victim is a "well-developed male," not a teenager, and that his body had been in the water for several days. The BCSO has made a tentative identification but has not verified the victim's identity or released his name.
Cook said that some Facebook posts seem "to want to connect this incident to a report we received last week of a body being reported beside the road in close proximity to where the current incident occurred." However, Cook said there was no body – just someone lying beside the road who got up and walked off.
Cook added that there is no known danger to the public regarding the apparent drowning, and details about how the body got into the tank are the subject of the BCSO's investigation.
