BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — An incarcerated man died at a federal prison in Bastrop County Thursday morning, one day after he was reported to be in custody there.
According to the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Bastrop, on Thursday, July 18, at around 6:30 a.m., 29-year-old Pelesasa Feiloaiga was found unresponsive.
Responding employees began life-saving measures and when requested medics arrived, they also attempted to save Feiloaiga's life. However, he was pronounced deceased by EMS personnel.
Feiloaiga's cause of death has not been released. FCI Bastrop said the FBI has been notified of his death, and no employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured.
Feiloaiga had been in custody at FCI Bastrop since July 17. He was sentenced to serve 72 months, or six years, for Robbery of Auto, Carjacking.
FCI Bastrop is classified as a low-security facility.
This is not the first reported death in recent years at FCI Bastrop. Charles Fankhauser, 64, died from COVID-10 at the facility in October 2020.
This is also not the only recent death within a Central Texas correctional facility. In late June, the Travis County Sheriff's Office reported a woman had died at the Travis County Jail. Her cause of death was also not released, pending the results of an autopsy report.
