BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect involved in a police shooting Saturday night.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded at approximately 8:48 p.m. Aug. 3 to a call east of Bastrop, on Bobolink Street, reporting a person who was “indiscriminately shooting."
The suspect allegedly fired an SKS 7.62 rifle at one of the responding deputies, and the SWAT team was called in to assist. The deputy was not injured in the shooting.
When the SWAT team arrived, the suspect allegedly fired at the responding deputies, who shot at him.
In an updated Facebook post from the sheriff's office Aug. 5, the suspect has since been identified as 35-year-old Christian Felix Gonzales.
Both deputies involved are currently on administrative leave as the investigation process moves forward.
"The Sheriff's Office would like to state that there is never any satisfaction when we have to take the life of an individual," the Facebook post stated in part. "Our prayers go out to the family who will now have to deal with the loss of a loved one."
