BASTROP, Texas — A man is dead after jumping in the water at a Bastrop park to save his son on Friday afternoon.
The Bastrop Police Department said officers were called to Fisherman’s Park around 4 p.m. for reports of an unresponsive man in the water.
Police officers responded, along with the Bastrop Fire Department, Bastrop County Sheriff’s Department and a civilian.
Investigators said the man’s son was struggling in the water when the man jumped in to help. The son was rescued, but the man was later declared dead.
The man’s identity has not been released, as authorities are still working to notify his next of kin.
