BLANCO, Texas — The City of Blanco has restored water to residents and moved to back to Stage 2 water restrictions after a major leak in the city’s water system was identified on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, city officials said they did not know where in the system the leak was located. Water was shut off for all residents and the city moved to temporary Stage 6 rationing.
“WE NEED HELP,” the city said in a statement. “While this is clearly a very big leak, our crews have not been able to locate it.”
Residents were asked to look for any possible large leak and report it. In an update on Saturday morning, the city said a resident identified the leak. Water was shut off for the valve serving that small area.
After the leak was identified, the city said its tanks were filling up and it was returning to Stage 2 water restrictions. There is no need to boil water, the city said.
The declaration came as the city continues to grapple with water issues. The mayor was scheduled to give utility crews an appreciation dinner on Saturday for their job in fixing a major leak last month.
Meanwhile, Blanco residents also saw water issues in the summer, stemming from a break in a pipe coming from the city's water supplier, Texas Water Company.
At the time, TWC was struggling to meet demand in the area, so in the fall, the city and the company came to a formal agreement to ensure Blanco gets the water it needs for the population.
