AUSTIN, Texas — A homicide investigation is underway after a body was found in northeast Austin.
Police say multiple 911 calls reported a shooting near East U.S. 290 and Calidad Drive just before 6 p.m. Thursday.
When officers arrived, they discovered a body with obvious signs of trauma. The person was taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Because the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, police didn't release any details on a possible suspect, the victim or what may have led up to the incident. However, police said they're still looking for witnesses and that this appears to be an isolated incident.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was also seen at the scene, but it's unclear what their role is in assisting with the investigation.
Thursday's incident is being investigated as Austin's 57th homicide of 2024.
