Body recovered Tuesday identified as victim of June 3 flooding

A body that was found in northwest Travis County Tuesday was identified as a man who was swept away by floodwaters on June 3.

A body that was found in northwest Travis County Tuesday was identified as a man who was swept away by floodwaters on June 3.

The Medical Examiner's office confirmed on Wednesday that the body was identified as 46-year-old Mark Hayes. A missing person report was filed for Hayes on Monday. He was believed to have been in his vehicle when it was swept from the roadway by floodwaters at a low crossing in the 6300 block of Spicewood Springs Road.

Hayes' body was found around noon Tuesday in the 6400 block of Spicewood Springs Road, approximately 150 yards downstream from the low water crossing where his vehicle was swept away, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

The cause of death was determined to be accidental drowning.

Another person's body was found May 29 in southeast Travis County and later identified as Oscar Sanchez Benitez, 29. Authorities believe he died during flooding on May 27.
